Egremont Russet is the classic English russet apple from 1870's.  Russet apples with their rough sandpaper-like skins are less popular than 50 years ago, and few are grown and sold commercially.

Egremont Russet has a good flavour, described as delicate, sweet with a nutty taste and a moist rather than juicy flesh.

Ther trees grow well and respond to pruning. The planned work in 2019 is continues winter pruning to restrict and open up growth and encourage more fruiting on lower branches.
